A temporary employee was moving a 2' x 20' steel beam weighting between 2500 & 3000 lbs. using an overhead crane. The employee sat the steel beam on stands with chains and lifted one end of the beam with the crane when a chain caught and pulled the beam off the stands. One end of the beam landed on the employee's left foot and ankle causing crushing injuries including broken bones that required hospitalization and surgery.
