While the tanker was being filled, it was discovered that a valve near the end of the tanker was not closed and was leaking caustic. The employee was attempting to close the valve on the tanker when the soles of his shoes began disintegrating from contact with caustic. He suffered chemical burns to his feet and was hospitalized.
