A road project was utilizing two excavator mounted drilling attachments, which have telescoping Kelly bars to make the drill bit go down into the ground. Two mechanics came out to inspect the Kelly bars. The injured mechanic was facing the excavator operator and signaled the operator to raise the boom, but the Kelly bar raised/collapsed instead.
