An employee was using new retraction tool to disassemble an air cycle machine unit. In the process of removing the retaining nut, the retraction tool's thread shaft adapter broke, causing a bubble or burst of hydraulic fluid to rupture at up to approximately 6,000 psi. The fluid cut/lacerated the employee's left hand between the middle and forefingers. He was hospitalized and required surgery.
